Supports and Overhangs - Advanced Techniques

Optimize supports for easy removal and perfect surface.

45° rule: Most printers handle overhangs up to 45° without supports. Above 45°, supports are necessary.

🌳 Support types: • Linear – faster, easier removal • Tree – less material, smaller contact with model • Organic (PrusaSlicer) – best surface under support • Enforcers/Blockers – manually add/exclude supports

⚙️ Key settings: • Z distance: 0.1–0.2 mm (easier removal) • XY distance: 0.6–0.8 mm • Support density: 10–15% (sufficient) • Interface layers: 2–3 layers for smoother surface

🎨 Multi-material tips: • PVA as support for PLA – dissolves in water • HIPS as support for ABS – dissolves in limonene • BreakAway material from Ultimaker
