Printing Replacement Parts – Practical Tips

How to replace broken parts at home, car, or electronics.
One of the most practical uses of 3D printing – saves money and time:
🏠 Where to find replacement parts: • Printables.com – "Household" section • Thingiverse – search product name + "replacement" or "repair" • GrabCAD – technical replacements • If nothing exists: measure the part and design it in Tinkercad
📏 How to measure broken parts: • Digital calipers (available from ~$10) • Photograph next to a ruler for reference • Record: length, width, height, hole diameters • Measure wall thickness for proper strength
🔧 Right material for replacement parts: • PLA: Decorative, kitchen items without heat • PETG: Parts under hood up to 70 °C, outdoor • ABS/ASA: Car parts, outdoor covers, high temperatures • TPU: Seals, gaskets, hoses • Nylon/CF: Mechanically stressed components
💡 Tips: • Increase infill to 40–60% for functional parts • Add 4–6 perimeters for strength • Use the right material – PLA deforms in a hot car in summer • Document successful print settings for repeating
